"Romeo Alpha Delta India Oscar Sierra" from SELEX Elsag

276 (Chelmsford) Squadron, have reached new heights thanks to the donation of high quality radio’s by local firm SELEX Elsag.

SELEX Elsag is a secure networking solutions and communications company with its head office located in Basildon, Essex. SELEX Elsag kindly offered to donate 20 high quality PRR Military soldier radios to 276 (Chelmsford) Squadron for the Air Cadets to use as they desire. Radios are an important tool for organisations such as the air cadets because they enable squadrons to volunteer their services to the local community. Thanks to the ability to use radios it is possible for the cadets to perform tasks such as car parking, marshalling and first aid cover. The radios can also be used at camps, events, expeditions and within lectures to enable the cadets at the squadron learn to use the radios effectively.

SELEX Elsag donated 20 of the highest specification PRR's to 276 (Chelmsford) Squadron at a formal presentation ceremony in December 2010. Since then, the squadron has used them at several events, including Hylands House and Ingatestone Hall. This has raised valuable funds for the squadron and given the Air Cadets fantastic opportunities.

It is not just the community that benefits from these opportunities; the cadets are also able to use their activities towards achieving their Duke of Edinburgh Award. They can either use their service to the community as volunteering or their communication abilities as their skills section. By then end of the year over 30 cadets at Chelmsford will have achieved their Bronze awards, thanks to these opportunities.

The Air Cadets at 276 (Chelmsford) Squadron definitely know how to work hard – but they also know how to have fun! Having equipment such as the PRR’s from SELEX Elsag also enables the introduction of tactical team games and engaging fieldcraft exercises. Air Cadets benefit from the enrichment gained during these exercises by learning valuable skills such as teamwork, navigation and leadership. All while having a really great time!

The commanding officer, Flt Lt Marriott, of 276 (Chelmsford) Squadron has commended SELEX Elsag on their donation and stresses that youth organisations depend on such generosity to provide development opportunities for the future generations.
